Team Liquid signs Link, joining Goldenglue in new mid lane

TL will rotate both mid laners during the Spring Split.

Team Liquid has signed former CLG mid laner Austin “Link” Shin to join Greyson “Goldenglue” Gilmer as the team’s pairing in the mid lane, the organization announced in a video Thursday.

Link first joined CLG in 2012, earning the starting mid lane spot in 2013. He played 126 LCS games over five splits with CLG, leaving following a fifth-place finish in the Spring 2015 Split.

Link’s departure is perhaps what he’s best known for now, as he announced his retirement and published an 18-page Google Doc airing grievances called “The Donezo Manifesto.” His return to Team Liquid marks his first appearance in competitive play since.

Goldenglue, recently promoted from Team Liquid Academy, started for Team Liquid at IEM Gyeonggi. North American teams don’t have a long history of platooning players in the mid lane, but it’s a fairly common practice for teams in South Korea and China.

Link joins a Team Liquid roster that includes returning starters Samson “Lourlo” Jackson, Gwang-jin “Piglet” Chae and Matt Elento as well as new signing Yeu-jin “Reignover” Kim.

The 2017 NA LCS Spring Split starts January 20.
