Phoenix1 signs Ryu, Arrow, completing 2017 roster

P1 rises again.

Riot Games

Phoenix1’s roster for the 2017 NA LCS Spring Split will feature former KT Rolster players Sang-ook “Ryu” Yoo and Dong-hyeon “Arrow” No, the organization announced through Yahoo Wednesday. The team has also hired former Royal Never Give Up coach Sang-chul “Fly” Kim.

Ryu spent the last two years in Europe with H2K, making it to the semifinals of Season 6 Worlds. He’s particularly known for his strong play with Fizz and Ahri, as well as his pre-game naps. Ryu is also known for being on the receiving end of one of the greatest League plays of all time:

Arrow had been with the KT Rolster organization since February 2014, playing with the team at Season 5 Worlds and making the quarterfinals. This year, he was particularly renowned for his Jhin, pulling off one of the best plays all year long.

Phoenix1 was an underdog story in the 2016 Summer Split, joining the LCS at basically the last minute and throwing together a roster of prospects and former fringe LCS players. After a dreadful 0-9 start, jungler Rami “Inori” Charagh became visa-eligible, and P1’s fortunes turned immediately. Inori will be returning to the roster, as will top laner Derek “Zig” Shao. The acquisition of former Immortals support Adrian Ma was announced earlier this month.

P1 was the only North American team to beat Team SoloMid in a series last split, and ended up finishing 5-13, qualifying for the 2017 Spring Split thanks to a 3-0 sweep of Echo Fox in the promotion tournament.

Phoenix1’s roster to start 2017 will be:

  • Top: Derek “Zig” Shao
  • Jungle: Rami “Inori” Charagh
  • Mid: Sang-ook “Ryu” Yoo
  • AD Carry: Dong-hyeon “Arrow” No
  • Support: Adrian Ma
