After qualifying for the 2016 Summer Split Team Envy placed 6th during the split and was eliminated in the first round of the playoffs. Envy swept Team Liquid in the first round of the Regional Qualifier for Worlds before falling in the second round to Cloud9, the team that sent them out of the playoffs as well.
Three players from Team Envy’s Summer Split roster — which ended with an 8-10 record — are top laner Woo-yeong “Seraph” Shin, mid laner Geon-woo “Ninja” Noh, and Support Nickolas “Hakuho” Surgent.
New jungler LirA joins Envy after four years playing professionally in South Korea, most recently with the Afreeca Freecs. Afreeca was a surprise performer in the 2016 LCK season, in part because of LirA’s play on Rek’Sai (3-4 Spring, 10-6 Summer) and Graves (10-4 Spring, 1-4 Summer). LirA will replace former Envy jungler Seyoung “Proxcin” Kim.
New AD Carry Apollo will be a familiar name to North American fans, previously holding a starting role with Team Impulse, Team Dignitas and Apex Gaming. Apollo joins Envy after a trade that sent former Envy AD Carry Benjamin “LOD” DeMunck to Team Dignitas.
The 2016 Summer Split was Envy’s first in League of Legends. The organization is well-known for its Call of Duty. To stay up-to-date on all of the off-season’s roster moves check out our live post here.
