For the first time in World Championship history, the 2017 Finals will be a rematch of the series we saw just a year ago, as SK telecom T1 take on Samsung Galaxy.
For SKT, this tournament has been unlike any they have experienced. In a season where they have struggled at almost every turn, SK telecom T1 haven’t looked unbeatable at the 2017 World Championships, and barely managed to find wins in both of their two Knockout Stage series. But they did still win. And that may be the most important lesson to take from their games. Despite everything that went wrong and all the places they struggled, SKT still manage to win.
In 2016, Samsung surprised everyone by making a run through the tournament’s Knockout Stage and taking SK telecom T1 to five games, just to barely miss in the final match of the series. With the same roster from the last World Championship, and another year of experience under the young team’s belt, Samsung will look to once again make a run at the most decorated team in League of Legends history.
The Finals will be a best of five series and will start at 3:00 a.m. ET, with the opening ceremony starting just an hour earlier.
