For the first time in its history, the League of Legends World Championship Finals will feature the same teams in two back to back years, as SK telecom T1 take on Samsung Galaxy, the only two franchises to have won Worlds since 2013.
A repeat world champion is a fittingly ironic end to the most unpredictable World Championship tournament in the last five years. After dealing with some surprising struggles in their group and only leaving it in second place, Samsung Galaxy shocked everyone by taking down tournament favorites, Longzhu Gaming in the quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, the SK telecom T1 juggernaut has stumbled at every possible occasion, first by having a difficult time in an easy group and then by barely managing to beat the EU LCS second seed, Misfits. In both their quarterfinal and semifinal matches, SK telecom T1 has gone down 2-1 in the series and won in the fifth game, a fate few would have predicted before the tournament started.
The 2017 World Championship Finals will be a best of five and will get started at 3 a.m. ET on Saturday, November 4.
