With the Group Stage of the 2017 World Championship over, it’s finally time to move on to the Knockout Stage which kicks off with Longzhu Gaming vs Samsung Galaxy.
This is the only match up in the quarterfinals that will see two Korean teams face off against one another, but it doesn’t mean they come into the match on equal ground. For Longzhu this tournament has been a breeze so far. They flew through their Group Stage, after coming in as the number one seed, and finished the group with no losses and without ever really being challenged.
For Samsung, things haven’t been so easy. Despite coming into the tournament with the same roster that took second place at Worlds last year, they look like a completely different team. They struggled against almost every opponent they played. The team lost two games during the Group Stage and almost lost two more.
Thanks to the two teams’ very different paths into this quarterfinal game, Longzhu will enter the match as the heavy favorites, but series between LCK teams can always lead to some surprising results.
The series will be a best of five and is scheduled to begin at 4:00 a.m. ET.
