Now that we officially know four of the eight teams who are going to the Quarterfinals in Chicago, it is time to look ahead to Group D.
Group D is arguably the craziest group at Worlds with Samsung Galaxy, Team Solo Mid, and Royal Never Give Up. Splyce rounds out the group as the fourth member, but after their lackluster Week 1 performance, their chance of advancing are slim . The other three teams however each ended Week 1 tied for first place in the group. It is a good thing that Group D is starting three hours earlier than the other days, because it is fairly likely that things could get messy when it comes to ties.
There are multiple scenarios in which we could see teams have to play tiebreakers. It is likely that we will see at least a two way tie, but if last week repeats itself, we will see a three way tiebreaker between TSM, RNG, and SSG. Splyce is also down but not completely out. If Splyce wins all three of their games, and the perfect storm happens in the other games, Splyce could in fact force a four way tie in Group D.
Technically speaking, all teams do stand a chance of getting out of this group and moving onto the Quarterfinals. If any team other than Splyce win three games, they will advance. If Splyce wins all three of their games, their fate is in the hands of their group mates
