Flash Wolves beat SKT for 3rd straight time as Worlds upsets continue

No undefeated teams remain at Worlds.

Riot Games

The Flash Wolves have provided us with yet another upset at 2016 Worlds, taking down the SK Telecom T1 15-3 in 41 minutes Monday. With the loss, SKT drops to 2-1 in the tournament, meaning every single team lost at least one game in the first week.

It’s the third straight win for the Flash Wolves over SKT, after two wins in the group stage at the Mid-Season Invitational. The Flash Wolves are now 5-0 all-time against Korean teams.

This was a match between two teams that had won the early game in each of their previous games, but one entered the day 2-0 and the other 0-2. Flash Wolves had blown leads in both of their previous two games, and once again took an early leadthanks to a mid lane gank from Hau-Hsuan “Karsa” Hung.

Soon that lead turned into a 5-1 advantage, but SKT squeezed closer and closer by stalling the game out and farming. But this time, the Flash Wolves properly focused on objectives, taking multiple consecutive Barons and sieging SKT’s base.

At 40 minutes, Flash Wolves took Elder Dragon and won the resulting fight 3-0, allowing them to close out the game.

Like we saw in CLG’s upset of the ROX Tigers earlier in the day, Aurelion Sol was crucial to taking down the Korean team.

With the win, Flash Wolves move to 1-2. The final game of Group B action in the first week will follow, with 1-1 Cloud9 against 1-1 I May.
