Support items have been hotfixed in Patch 8.5

Sorry, Teemo!

Riot Games

Gold generation items have always been one of the most difficult to walk tightropes in all of League of Legends.

Their actual purpose is to provide supports with a steady stream of income since they are the only players not constantly killing minions and monsters to gain gold. Make the items too weak and supports won’t be able to buy any items, especially if their team is losing. Make the items too strong and suddenly they’re the best buy in the game for just about any champion, allowing laners to abuse the cheap stats and free gold. Teemo was way too strong as he could make use of the Bandit passive on his mushrooms, as well as the cheap AP.

Originally scheduled for Patch 8.6, this fix was too important to ignore for another patch and the changes were released as a hotfix just a day after Patch 8.5 went live. Hopefully, these support item changes will help keep them useful in bottom lane without letting them slip into the hands of the solo laners.

Here’s the full list of changes that went out with the hotfix:

All Support Items

Removed Bandit: No longer grants gold when nearby enemy minions are killed by allies or when attacking enemy champions

Targon’s Brace and Remnant of the Aspect

Passive Gold Generation increased from two gold per 10 seconds to four gold per 10 seconds.

Spellthief’s Edge, Frostfang, and Eye of the Watchers

Lockout: The penalty for killing a minion or non-epic monster now pauses gold per 10 generation in addition to Tribute stack generation

Quest Completion: Lockout clears upon quest completion, rather than upon upgrading to Remnant of the Watchers

Tribute gold: Increased from 15 to 20

Nomad’s Medallion and Remnant of the Ascended

Gold Coin reward increased from 40 to 45.
