Maokai, Udyr, Nautilus and similar tanks’ win rates have shot up due to the strong new keystone mastery, Courage of the Colossus. The mastery sits at the bottom of the Resolve skill tree, replacing Strength of the Ages.
Courage of the Colossus grants a scaling shield to the user after the user hits somebody with hard crowd control. It has a 30 second cooldown.
The official tooltip reads as follows:
Gain a shield for 20 - 190 (based on level)(+ 7% maximum health per nearby enemy champion) for 4 seconds after hitting an enemy champion with hard crowd control.
So what does that mean? It means that every hook, stun and root gives that tank a fat shield and makes their all-in much stronger. With this added layer of protection, tanks have become much more viable.
Reddit user RuCat has posted some statistics along with what champions can utilize the mastery to its full potential. Some champions that they predict to do well, like Diana or Lee Sin, haven’t been tried out enough to have their statistics change because of the mastery on champion.gg, but we’ve charted out some of the other changes below.
Despite the spike in tank win rates and the obvious strength of this mastery, there has been no notice that this keystone mastery will be nerfed (yet.)
