Press the Attack would be an excellent AD Carry rune if Lethal Tempo and Fleet Footwork didn’t exist. However, this rune has quite a bit of potential when given to duelist champions in the top lane. Let’s talk about how this rune should be used.
What does it do?
Attacking the same champion over and over again grants you a stacking damage buff. This buff is adaptive, meaning it will grant you AP or AD depending on what you use the most. This damage bonus can keep stacking and will continue until you attack another champion or the stacks fall off.
Which runes go well with it?
Since we will be using this rune for brawling, we want to grab Triumph, Bloodline and Coup De Grace for our Precision runes.
Triumph grants us a bounty of health and gold when defeating a champion. Since you’ll be trying to duel for most of the game, bonus health on victory can save your skin from ignite or the enemy jungler. The increased income is nice as well.
Coup De Grace is also a great rune for dueling, as it makes bursting your champion down once they are low even easier. There are plenty of champions like Aatrox that have increased healing as they get closer to death. Coup De Grace can help nullify that bonus.
Legend: Bloodline is great for duelists because lifesteal is great for duelists. For every tick of damage you deal you’ll heal, helping you stay in the fight forever. Pairing this with the Domination Tree, Taste of Blood and Ravenous Hunter will keep you alive for very long time. Outlasting your opponent is a valid strategy in duels.
Whose it for?

Press the Attack doesn’t have the same wide appeal as the other runes. However, in the right hands on the right champion, this build could be very powerful.
You want to take this rune on champions like:
- Renekton
- Jayce
- Pantheon
- Kled
- Urgot
Champions like Renekton and friends slice their way into fights and stick to targets. The goal is to beat them down by staying in constant battle. This rune isn’t great for burst champions, but it’s perfect for those dumb top lane fights that happen all the time.
When you need something to help you take down that enemy Maokai or Mundo, grab Press the Attack and heal your way to victory.
