Sett will be League of Legends’ next champion

The Ionian Boss is “smokin’ hot,” just like Riot said he would be

Riot has revealed League of Legends’ latest champion, Sett, with a lore post on the game’s website. This reveal comes almost two months after Riot first teased Sett in its October Champion Roadmap, when it let us know he’d be an Ionian criminal who “will thrive at the center of a brawl.”

Sett is the a prominent leader in Ionia’s sprawling criminal underworld. He rose to his position from nothing in part through notoriety gain in the Ionian fighting pits. While fighting, Sett gain a reputation as having savage strength and an impressive ability to take a beating.

With all that information on his backstory, it should come as no surprise that Sett’s role will be a Fighter once he actually arrives in League of Legends. In his original tease, Riot said that Sett would specifically be a Juggernaut, so that makes sense. It’s been quite a while since Riot released a top lane bruiser for League of Legends, and as one of Ionia’s most legendary brawlers, Sett seems like the perfect way to add another champion to the role. The last time Riot released a regular fighter was Camille — though a few other champions fit the mold as a secondary role.

Sett’s announcement comes on the same day that Aphelios, League’s latest champion, was released onto live servers. With the holidays right around the corner, it’s likely that Sett will go up on the Public Beta Realm soon, but not release into the game officially for a few weeks.

Update (Dec. 12): Sett was released on the PBE late on Wednesday night, so we now know exactly what his abilities will do.

Passive - Pit Grit

Heavy Hands: Sett’s basic attacks alternate between a Left Punch and a Right Punch, always opening with a Left Punch. Attack speed increases the speed of both punches.

Left Punches — Deal normal damage.

Right Punches — come out faster and deal bonus damage

Heart of the Half-Beast: Sett gains .25 additional health regeneration for each 5 percent missing health.

Q - Knuckle Down

Sett itches for a fight, gaining 30 percent movement speed for 1.5 seconds while moving toward enemy champions.

Sett’s next two basic attacks deal 10 bonus physical damage, plus 1 percent of the target’s maximum health.

W - Haymaker

Passive: Sett Stores 100 percent of damage taken as Grit, to a cap of (50 percent of Sett’s max health). Grit decays quickly four seconds after the damage was taken.

Active: Sett winds up a giant punch in a direction, expending all Grit to deal true damage to all enemies in the center line. Enemies not in the center line take physical damage instead.

Sett also gains a rapidly decaying shield equal to Grit expended for two seconds.

E - Facebreaker

Sett smashes enemies on either side of him into each other, dealing physical damage and slowing them by 50 percent for .5 seconds. If Sett grabbed at least one enemy on each side, all enemies are stunned for 1 second.

R - The Show Stopper

Sett grabs an enemy champion, carries them forward, then slams them into the ground. All enemies near the impact take 40 percent of the grabbed enemy’s bonus health in physical damage and are slowed by 99 percent for 1.5 seconds. Enemies take less damage the further they are from where Sett lands.
