Worlds 2018: A Lightning Round with Flash Wolves’ Maple

Maple stans a queen (Miku Hatsune)

Julia Lee/Polygon

We talked to Flash Wolves’ SwordArt already, but following the team’s loss on day four of the 2018 World Championship Group Stage, we pulled aside the team’s mid laner, Huang “Maple” Yi-Tang for a Lightning Round to cheer him up.

The tl;dr for our Lightning Rounds is that the questions asked are a mix from pros we’ve already interviewed, Vox Media employees or yours truly. Some of them are League related, but most aren’t.

The interview below has been edited for clarity and length. Riot Games provided a translator for this interview.

Who is the best player in your region who isn’t at Worlds? (From Emily Rand.)

Maple: For the time being, I can’t think of anyone.

What is the largest animal you think you could beat with your bare hands?

Maple: A monkey.

Salty or sweet?

Maple: Sweet.

Who is your favorite person to duo with?

Maple: Our top laner, Hanabi.

What’s your favorite anime?

Maple: Miku. (Vocaloid Miku Hatsune.)

(Ed. note: Vocaloid isn’t an anime, but we’ll let him slide ... this time.)

If you were an animal, what would you be?

Maple: A sea lion.

What is one food you would never eat?

Maple: Edible or non-edible?

The Rift Herald: Edible food!

Maple: Okra.

Who is the messiest person on your team?

Maple: Betty.

The final task: Contribute a question to ask in future interviews.

Maple: Do you like being the team carry or getting carried?

The Rift Herald: And what’s your answer to that question?

Maple: I want to be carried. Easier game!
