Today Europe made history, by winning both of their match-ups against heavily favored Korean teams. G2 Esports gave the Afreeca Freecs a beat down and Vitality upset Gen. G, last year’s World Champions. Luckily, we were able to pull Team Vitality’s support, Jakub “Jactroll” Skurzyński in for a Rift Herald Lightning Round.
The tl;dr for our Lightning Round is that we have a plethora of questions in a bag from players, Vox Media employees and from the deep, cursed depths of my brain. Players pick a question and the player will answer and try to get through as many as they can. (But don’t worry, we’re not grading any of the players based on how many they can answer or anything.)
The interview below has been edited for clarity and length.
How do you take your coffee?
Jactroll: Ha! I don’t drink any coffee.
The Rift Herald: Do you prefer tea?
Jactroll: Yes, I prefer tea, but I’m a big fan of Coca Cola. When we were scrimming, I would drink one glass of Coke. I only drank from the glass bottle, otherwise I don’t like it. After the first game of scrims, I would drink my Coke and then keep going, every day. And then when we’re playing best of fives, I would always drink my Coke after the third game. So it’s my way of getting used to the environment. That’s my secret.
The Rift Herald: Coke! That’s the winning secret.
Jactroll: But now I’m trying to get rid of it.
What are you being for Halloween? (Of course, you’re making it to Finals, so you won’t be celebrating Halloween, but what would you be for Halloween?)
Jactroll: [laughs] I’m a big fan of Batman, but that’s not really Halloween style.
The Rift Herald: You can be Batman for Halloween! You can be anything!
Jactroll: I just like the idea of Batman overall. Y’know, the rich guy is helping out others. He doesn’t have superpowers, but he’s well trained and he’s very smart. So I kind of associate with him. [laughs]
What is your favorite holiday?
Jactroll: Like the place?
The Rift Herald: Like Christmas or Halloween ...
Jactroll: To be honest, I don’t have one. I’m not a big fan of Christmas at all. While I was playing in national leagues, I was playing a lot of League of Legends because I dropped out of school since I wanted to become pro. Back then I was in a gaming house, because I was contracted to support the organization. I wanted to keep training so much, that I didn’t even go back home for Christmas to my hometown.
The Rift Herald: That’s dedication!
Jactroll: Yeah, I was dedicated because I knew it was my only goal in life to achieve that.
The Rift Herald: And you just played one hell of a game, so ...
Jactroll: Yes! It was last season, like season 7 and I used to play like 3.5k games of solo queue. I was scrimming every day and then solo queue. I was pretty much playing for 16 hours a day.
The Rift Herald: And now look at you! Beating the former champions!
Jactroll: The current ones!
Do you prefer trains or planes?
Jactroll: Planes by far. I’ve traveled more on planes than trains in my life. And I like planes, to be honest.
What’s your favorite candle scent?
Jactroll: I would say vanilla.
The Rift Herald: That’s a good one.
Jactroll: And you? Which one do you like?
The Rift Herald: I like apple scented candles! They’re very autumn-feeling.
What temperature do you keep your home?
Jactroll: I prefer it to be cold-ish. I keep it at 22 degrees celsius. (71.6 degrees fahrenheit.)
If you could live in one video game universe, which would it be?
Jactroll: The Witcher 3.
The Rift Herald: Wow, that was a quick answer!
Jactroll: Yeah, it’s my favorite game of all time. I’m a big video game fan but I think The Witcher 3 is my favorite one. Besides the Heroes of Might and Magic 3 and there’s a game called Gothic. It’s more Eastern Europe, I think.
If you had to play a different game competitively instead, which would you pick?
Jactroll: I think it would be Counter-Strike because I started my online video games with Counter-Strike 1.6. I guess I would stick to it, because I was pretty good at it. I didn’t have a PC good enough to play. I was playing at like, 20-30 fps constantly, but I was pretty good at it.
The final task: Contribute a question to the bag to ask during future interviews.
Jactroll: What’s your favorite movie?
The Rift Herald: That’s a good question!
Jactroll: I’m a bit of a movie fan, so I hope people get that question. I want to see their answers.
