IEM Gyeonggi teams announced: Samsung Galaxy, Team Liquid, Immortals competing

Team Liquid and Immortals will each appear in their first international tournaments.

Riot Games

The full eight-team roster for the upcoming Intel Extreme Masters League of Legends tournament in Gyeonggi, South Korea has been revealed. After an IEM Oakland earlier in the month that ended up with just six teams after drop outs, this time around IEM will have a full collection of eight teams, despite four of the original group (Cloud9, G2 Esports, Royal Never Give Up and ROX Tigers) not attending.

Here are the groups:

Group A:

Samsung Galaxy

Immortals

J Team

Vega Squadron

Group B:

Kongdoo Monster

Team Liquid

Giants Gaming

Dark Passage

From the LCK, Worlds runners-up Samsung Galaxy will be competing after retaining its starting roster, as will recently promoted Kongdoo Monster. LMS runners-up J Team (owned by Taiwanese musician and actor Jay Chou) will represent Taiwan.

North America will have two representatives in the field: Immortals, third-place finishers in both Spring and Summer Split, and Team Liquid, coming off a disappointing Summer finish. Both teams will be competing in their first international tournament, and will be debuting new rosters: Immortals with former Team Liquid jungler Joshua “Dardoch” Hartnett, and Liquid (reportedly) with former Immortals jungler Yeu-jin “Reignover” Kim.

For Europe, Giants Gaming will take G2’s spot, also with a new roster featuring prospects Olof “Flaxxish” Medlin and Elias “Upset” Lipp in the top lane and at ADC, respectively. Giants also returns reigning EU LCS First Team mid laner Gun-woo “NighT” Na.

Two International Wild Card teams will also be competing: Turkey’s Dark Passage and Russia’s Vega Squadron.

IEM Gyeonggi will begin December 16 and run through December 18.
