Everything you missed from Week 7 of the NA LCS Spring Split

First place in the Spring Split is up for grabs heading into the final two weeks.

Last week, things looked pretty set in stone in the NA LCS. Echo Fox would go through as the number one seed, with Cloud9 behind them and a quartet of teams rounding out the rest of playoffs in whatever order shook out. And while most of that information may still be true, week seven gave us some pretty big question marks about the league’s leading team.

While no one would have guessed it heading in, far and away the week’s most important game was Golden Guardians carefully planned and perfectly executed upset against Echo Fox. On paper, the two teams, who occupy polar opposite ends of the standings, couldn’t seem to match up in a more one sided manner. In practice, that wasn’t far from the truth, but not in the way we were expecting. While the game may have made it all the way to 37 minutes, it never looked out of Golden Guardians control, handing Echo Fox a loss that could cost them first place in the split.

Thankfully for Fox, Cloud9, the team nipping at the their heals for first place, also found themselves on the end of an upset this week in a disappointing loss to Counter Logic Gaming, the only bottom of the table team that still has a real chance at making playoffs. This loss prevented Cloud9 from claiming a tie for first forcing them to continue chasing Echo Fox in the split’s last two weeks.

As for these two team’s remaining schedule Echo Fox has the tougher road, facing off against Clutch Gaming and 100 Thieves, both top of the table teams, as well as Counter Logic Gaming, who’ve already shown their ability to play spoiler. Cloud9, meanwhile, will only have to contend with Team Liquid and TSM as their strong teams, both hovering around fifth and sixth in the standings, with two other relatively easy games against FlyQuest and OpTic to round things out. But, starting from one game behind Fox already, Cloud9 also have a slightly steeper hill to climb if they want first place heading into playoffs.
