Riot announced on Monday morning that the NA LCS will travel to Miami for the Finals of the Spring Split this April. The event will take place on April 7 and 8 and will be held at The Fillmore theater.
The Fillmore is one of the smallest venues to house an NA LCS Finals match with a capacity just over 2,000. However, head of North American esports for Riot Games Chris “Chopper” Hopper says that he believes it will help give fans a new and unique experience that’s different from the larger arenas of past Finals.
“It’s a very intimate venue; the fans are going to feel closer to the stage and show than many of them have before, and we’re going to get some really great shots from both stage and analyst desk,” said Hopper in an interview with the Rift Herald.
Hopper also mentioned that Riot like to switch up venue styles both for the benefit of fans in attendance as well as the broadcast experience for fans watching at home. “Ultimately, we felt that there is great value in both approaches, and will be looking at smaller venues for the Spring Split Finals and larger venues for our Summer Split Finals to ensure proper balance for our fans,” Hopper said.
Riot has also tended towards switching between the east and west coasts for the NA LCS Finals, suggesting a possible west coast arena for the venue of the Summer Split later this year.
