Team SoloMid AD Carry Yiliang “Doublelift” Peng has been through a lot of popular bot lane duos in the past. Whether you’re thinking of his current duo with Vincent “Biofrost” Wang or his past partnership with Zaqueri “Aphromoo” Black, they have always been solid. At the post-game press conference on Sunday, we were able to ask him what separates great duos from just two great players.
I think part of it is not being afraid to tell each other things we don’t like that the other person does and also thing that we do like, ‘cause um, if you’re just constantly criticizing someone or you’re afraid to criticize them, that’s a really big problem with a duo lane. Always being on the same page after another, you kind of get a feel for your lane partner when you’re always telling them hey we should try this, or I think this is good, or this is bad. Just having an open talk all the time.
Peng is talking about communicating well with his duo partner but this can be applied to any relationship, whether it’s a significant other, friend or family member. Good communication is key!
This serves as a good reminder that these types of player relationships work the same as any other important relationship. Talk to people and work things out, because if you end up just stubbornly focused on how you’re doing everything right and your duo (or friend) is doing everything wrong, you will crash and burn. At the same time, you shouldn’t be afraid to speak up if something is happening that you don’t like.
A good relationship — and a good duo — is all about clear communication and compromise.
