After 14 matches in the 2017 NA/EU Rift Rivals tournament, European Spring Split champion and Mid-Season Invitational runner-up G2 Esports is the first team eliminated from the competition.
G2 have dominated the EU LCS since entering the league in the 2016, however until the 2017 Mid-Season Invitational they were never able to translate this regional success into international results. Since their best ever international finish at MSI they have struggled to find wins in the EU LCS Summer Split going just 3-3 so far.
This struggle in their domestic league has carried over to the Rift Rivals tournament as G2 failed to find wins against almost any North American teams with their one victory coming in their first match against Cloud9.
This disappointing performance in the tournament has not been shared by Europe as a whole as the region remains very close to North America in overall Rift Rivals record with NA at 8-6 and EU at 6-8.
