KSV eSports acquire world champion team Samsung Galaxy

The owners of the Overwatch League’s Seoul Dynasty are making their first leap into League of Legends.

KSV eSports have acquired the roster of world champions, Samsung Galaxy, according to a press release from the organization. The company, a joint venture between “Silicon Valley and Seoul,” will re-brand the team for competition in the LCK during 2018.

This is not the first esports venture for KSV who also own the Overwatch League’s Seoul Dynasty franchise, as well as a Heroes of the Storm team and a Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds team. This will, however, be the organization’s first foray into the world of competitive League of Legends.

The roster of players are likely to be kept together for the start of the 2018 season thanks to their strong play throughout the year, and championship win at the 2017 World Championship Finals.

Samsung Galaxy has represented South Korean League of Legends since 2013 when the team purchased the rosters from the MVP organization, and re-branded the team just before their appearance in the World Championship that year. It’s unclear if Samsung will continue to sponsor a team in the 2018 season or if they are simply pulling out of the LCK all together.
