SK telecom T1 announced today that the team will not renew the contracts of its starting jungler, Han “Peanut” Wang-ho and substitute mid laner, Kim “Sky” Ha-neul.
Han joined the team just last year after his former team, the ROX Tigers, disbanded its entire roster after losing to SKT in the semifinals of the 2016 World Championships.
While the team started strong with Han as their jungler, winning the Mid-Season Invitational, the second half of their season was a constant struggle that included one of the team’s worst ever performance in LCK and culminated in their first ever loss in a series at Worlds when SKT were swept 3-0 by Samsung Galaxy in the Finals.
Kim, on the other hand, has been a sub during his entire time with SK telecom T1. He remains largely untested and though he didn’t perform well during his time with CJ Entus in 2016, is a very young player that has shown potential.
Both players are likely targets of free agent acquisition by teams both in Korea and in other regions.
The end of SKT’s statement mentions that the team will continue to update fans on the state of current contracts as soon as possible, making it unclear if these are the only players that SKT plan to replace this off-season.
