Riot co-founder Marc “Tryndamere” Merrill posted a TwitLonger as a response to all the drama that’s been going on lately. To sum it up, Team SoloMid owner Andy “Reginald” Dinh, LCK caster Christopher “MonteCristo” Mykkles and Merrill have been going off on social media about the state of the competitive League scene in the long-term.
According to the latest post from Merrill, Riot is planning to sell more in-game team-specific items, where the revenue goes toward the teams and players, much like the icons that already in the game.
Merrill wrote:
Our 2017 plans include new in-game team-specific items with revenue-sharing for teams and pros, as well as smaller steps like working with teams to sell more jerseys — currently in the NA LCS studio store and at the summer finals in Toronto — and with the cooperation of teams, we hope to bring them to our online store as well.
Merrill doesn’t elaborate on what these team-specific items could be. Currently team-based champion skins are reserved for world champion teams only. Aside from those, the only team-specific items available to purchase in the game right now are player icons. It sounds like we’ll need to wait until closer to 2017 to find out what additions Riot has in mind.
