There will be at least one new team in League Champions Korea next season, as Challenger squad ESC Ever swept SBENU Sonicboom, 3-0, in the first match of the promotion series Thursday. SBENU Sonicboom finished in ninth place during the LCK regular season, and will be relegated.
ESC Ever accomplished more this split than just about any Challenger team in League history. Ever won the 2015 KeSPA Cup, sweeping SK Telecom T1 in the semifinals and CJ Entus in the finals, before winning IEM Cologne, defeating H2K and the Qiao Gu Reapers.
Much of Ever's success this season has come thanks to the star bot lane combination of Loken and Key, and that continued in this series. Loken picked Sivir in all three games, and broke Froggen's world CS record with 767 creeps killed in 76 minutes.
The second and final series of this round of LCK Promotion will take place Friday, between Kongdoo Monster and MVP. The games are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. local time (5 a.m. ET).
